The first ever British house record remains one of the best. T Coy’s classic 'Carino' is guaranteed to tear the roof of any clued-up club worldwide to this day. The record was born out Mike Pickering (Hacienda DJ, Quando Quango, M-People and now erstwhile Deconstruction label boss) and Simon Topping's (A Certain Ratio) shared love of Latin music they’d both soaked up in the barrios of mid-80s NYC. They hooked up with Ritchie Close on their return and combined these Latin vibes with the latest sound coming out of Chicago. Then a little known gay, black strain of dance music that would go on to conquer the world – its name was H.O.U.S.E.

Remixing such a seminal track is a daunting prospect but Decon have gone to some of the hottest talent around and come up trumps. Motor City Drum Ensemble's Raw Cuts EPs have made him the darling of the underground worldwide, his records appealing to techno, disco and deep house crowds alike. His take on Carino is stunning, up there with his finest work to date. Already a firm favourite with X-Press 2 who gave it its world premier on their Ministry Of Sound radio show, it will be a fixture in the clubs and especially on the terraces all summer. The Soul Mekanik mix stays closer to the original, beautifully and subtly updating it for the 21st Century, no wonder Pete Tong has already made it his Essential New Tune.

With further mixes from Steve Mac and Pickering's old Hacienda DJ mate Greg Wilson, Carino 2010 is a brilliant package that does justice to one of the finest and most important records in British dance music history.
